What's an Adventure Box? (my first vlog post)

Saturday I spoke at the LEAH Convention (Loving Education at Home) in Rochester, NY on the topic of Adventure Boxes. I had so many requests to share the information here that I thought I would go ahead and try out a vlog post. This one is about 14 minutes, but in it I explain what an Adventure Box is, the benefits of planning an adventure with your kids, some ideas for adventures, and fun ways to use them. I hope you enjoy it!

Feel free to leave a comment and ask a question or give me some feedback...would you like to see more vlog posts? It would be fun to share more about how we use some of our curriculum in this format. Let me know if you think it would be valuable to you. Thanks!

All the examples you share here speak to my practical heart. Your video is brimming with tips and ideas. Thank you for the time you put into this. So glad to get to hear your voice and get a glimpse of your packed bookshelves! My head is spinning with ideas of things we can pull from our shelves and build into adventure boxes.

Thanks, Heather.

Great ideas. I especially liked the one with the compasses. Fun to practice at home and then maybe find an orienteering course or event.

You have inspired me so! I've been wanting to do a "Little Women" unit with my girls, but haven't actually been motivated to gather the resources and create it. I'm also thinking of using the summer to do a birding unit. So. Much. Fun!!!

Love your blog! I usually don't comment, but wanted to tell you thank you for sharing your homeschool journey. I used to do adventure boxes when my kids were little (they didn't have a cool name though.) I was watching your vlog and my 13 yo son said, "Sweet! Are we doing those again?" and then he and my 11 yo daughter starting naming all the cool things they were going to put in their boxes with or without me. I love it! Exactly what we need right now. Wonderful reminder that following passion and learning together does not have an age limit. Off to work on plans for our next adventure...
